Babcock Ranch, America’s first solar-powered town located just northeast of Fort Myers on Babcock Ranch Road/S.R 31, is hosting the Festival of Kites from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in Jack Peeples Park — rain or shine.

This family friendly event features a day of fun and free kite kits for children while supplies last, along with tours of Babcock Ranch’s model homes and food truck tastings.

Bring a chair or blanket, and watch world-renowned kite makers and fliers showcase their talents in large kites and inflatables with flying demos.

Air-conditioned shuttles will be available for self-guided tours of more than two dozen furnished Babcock Ranch model homes open for viewing. Guests who register online will be invited to sample menu items from local favorite food trucks at every stop. Visit www.BabcockRanch.com/events to register, then stop in at Woodlea Hall Discovery Center on event day to pick up your bracelet and start your tour. Model home tours and bracelets are limited to the first 500 guests to register.

Windworks will host an onsite Wind Garden with kites and accessories available for purchase.

Guests can also explore the enhanced Jack Peeples Park playground and nature trail, and visit Founder’s Square, the heart of Babcock Ranch, to enjoy fare at Table & Tap restaurant, Slater’s Goods & Provisions, Scoops Coffee & Creamery and ReCharge Juice Co. in the Lee Health Healthy Life Center.
