With a career spanning over three decades, Larry Burns is a leading expert in strategic planning and automotive innovation, renowned for his role in reinventing the automobile. From 1998 to 2009, Burns served as the Corporate Vice President of Research & Development and Planning at General Motors, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s global operations and product strategies. His responsibilities included spearheading advanced technology development, product portfolio planning, capacity planning, and strategic initiatives.

Larry serves as a member of the board of directors at Niron Magnetics, as well as executive advisor at Neural Propulsion Systems, Nanoramic Laboratories and Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE), where his insights contribute to shaping future directions in technology and energy. He’s also served as the Director of the Program for Sustainable Mobility at Columbia University and Professor of Engineering Practice at University of Michigan.

Larry holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Science degree in Engineering/Public Policy from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). With a strong background in engineering and public policy, Larry continues to inspire and drive progress in the fields of transportation, energy, and innovation.
