Private clubhouses dominated Golf Inc.’s 2016 Clubhouse of the Year competition, which recognizes the best new and remodeled clubhouses that opened in 2015. Seven of the nine honorees this year are private or semi-private clubs.

Private clubs have traditionally invested more into clubhouses, as they serve a wider function for members. In recent years, clubs have invested heavily to remake their clubhouses into venues that would attract families and focus on a resort-style living concept. Most of this year’s honorees focused on delivering a resort-like feel.

“This year’s clubhouses represent the very best in clubhouse design and functionality and show how designers are capturing the essence of resort living,” said Jack Crittenden, Editor In Chief of Golf Inc. magazine. “The honorees are impressive on both levels and include some cutting-edge features.”

The two public courses honored are Harbour Town Golf Links, which built a new clubhouse to achieve PGA Tour level standards, and Pärnu Bay Golf Links in Estonia. Rosedale Golf Club in Toronto was the only other honoree from outside of the U.S.

Golf Inc. included sustainability in the judging criteria for the first time.

Golf Inc. will announce placement in its July/August issue, which is due out in early July. Honorees will be recognized at the 2016 Golf Inc. Summit, to be held Sept. 14-16th at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas.
